The CWAGAA Educator Award

The CWAGAA Board of Directors is pleased to announce, "The Educator (Teacher/Administrator) Award".
Background:
Teachers play an important role in cultivating the future and success of students, and their impact extends far beyond the classroom. The College of West Africa has been fortunate to have exceptional educators who have made an indelible mark on the academic, social, and professional journeys of their students. These individuals, through their dedication, passion, and hard work, have helped mold leaders across various fields of business, government, and social services, both locally and internationally.
The CWA Global Alumni Association Board recognizes the profound influence these educators have had, and as such, we are launching an initiative to honor and celebrate their contributions.
Purpose of Award:
The aim of this award is to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional educators and administrators at the College of West Africa, ensuring they know their hard work is truly appreciated by the alumni community and the school.
Eligibility:
This award is open to teachers and administrators of the College of West Africa, both active and retired.
Description of the Award:
The Service Award will consist of a plaque and framed certificate. The award will be presented at the annual convention every year.
Nomination Procedure:

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the alumni community, faculty, staff or class leadership, two months prior to the convention.

The media team will email the membership and share award details on CWA Global website, Telegram, and other platforms associated with CWAGAA.

All nominees will be notified of their nominations a month prior to the convention.

The deadline for nominations will be clearly communicated each year.

Selection Criteria:

Awardees: The award will recognize two (2) educators/administrators annually, who may be either active or retired, full-time or part-time.

Ineligibility: The award will not be given posthumously. Nominees must be alive at the time of selection. Additionally, nominees must not be under suspension or have been terminated from the College of West Africa.

Faculty: The entire faculty of teachers and administrators is eligible for this award.

Nominations: Nominations will be submitted by the Awards Committee to the board for final selection. For current administrators/teachers, nominations will be heavily weighted by feedback from the school community, ensuring that their contribution is valued by those who work with them directly.

Selection Process:
​
The selection of awardees will follow a transparent, inclusive, and systematic process to ensure fairness:

Nomination Submission: Global Alumni members and CWA faculty will submit nominations for teachers and administrators they believe exemplify the qualities of an outstanding educator two months prior to CWA Global Alumni annual convention.

Award Committee: Will review all nominations.

Board Members and Managing Officers:

​In the event a board member or manager officer is nominated for the Educator Award, the Board shall have the sole discretion to determine the member’s eligibility to receive the award.

Board Member or Managing Officer nominated shall not be involved, influence or input in the eligibility determination process.

​Final Evaluation: The committee will evaluate nominees based on their years of service, impact on students, contributions to the school community, and overall dedication to education. For current administrators, feedback from the Principal of the school will be an important factor in the evaluation.

Selection: After the review, finalists will be forwarded to the board to select no more than two educators or administrators to receive the award for the year.

By following this process, we ensure that the most deserving individuals are recognized for their invaluable contributions to the success of CWA students.

Presentation: The award will be presented at the CWA Global Alumni Association’s annual convention. This event will serve as a platform to recognize and honor the achievements of these outstanding educators.

Tenure Requirements: Nominees must have served at least 5 years in total at the College of West Africa. This can be continuous or spread out over multiple periods of service, if the total time equals or exceeds five years.

Roll-Out Date: The Educator Award is set to be launched at the 2025 CWA Global Alumni Convention.
